“The scale of the challenge is enormous, but we’re lucky to be a part of this — to be able to help solve how we shift our planet’s energy and transportation systems entirely away from fossil fuel.”
A second life for an American factory
When Mitsubishi closed its plant in Normal, Illinois, it was weeks away from being torn down. Rivian bought it in 2017. Today it builds every Rivian on the road and employs thousands of people.
Mitsubishi ends production. A 2.4 million square foot plant that once employed about 3,000 people sits empty.
Rivian builds the R1T, R1S, its commercial vans and the new R2 here, with thousands of people from the region on the team.
Today, our vehicles are beloved award winners
Rivians keep earning top honors from safety experts, industry critics and the hundreds of thousands of owners who drive our vehicles every day.

Why the world is going electric
Electric vehicles are better for drivers, for families and for the places we live.
-
Lower running costs
EV drivers spend 60% less on power and half as much on maintenance as owners of gas vehicles.
-
Fewer trips to the shop
Far fewer moving parts means no oil changes, spark plugs or timing belt service.
-
Charge where you already go
At home, at work or near everyday stops, with over 75,000 public charging ports nationwide.
-
More room inside
With no engine or transmission tunnel, front trunks and flat floors free up cargo and cabin space.
-
Cleaner local air
EVs improve local air quality and reduce respiratory health issues, especially among children.
-
Lower lifetime emissions
From the factory to the scrapyard, EVs produce far lower lifetime emissions than comparable gas vehicles.
